It’s everyone’s (well at least mine) favorite time of the year…when I can fill out my NCAA bracket and watch all the games. In honor of March Madness, we’ve decided to create our own bracket where YOU decide who will bring home the title of Triangle Beer Champion in 2014. We’ve broken the bracket up into 4 different regions based on style. All our participants are from the greater Raleigh area and all breweries got at least two entries. I realize that some of the entries may not exactly fit the region where they are placed, but I did the best I could. I chose the entries based on one of three criteria…1) Is it the brewery’s flagship or does it have a lot of check-ins on untappd, 2) What’s the average rating on untappd and/or beer advocate and 3) Is it one that I really like and want to see make the tournament field. Sooo… Let the voting begin!

Feel free to print your own bracket (DOWNLOAD BRACKET HERE), fill in your favorites, and see if you can pick the Triangle Beer Champion.

Voting Rules and Dates

  • Only 1 vote per person per day. If you vote more than once in a day, all your votes will be disqualified.

Cool idea..My vote is in.. Minor nit-pick only.. Carolina Brewing and Carolina Brewing Company should have their names a little different on the listings.. Maybe “Co.” at the end.. Or if you are out of room on the line change their beers to “CBC”? Like I said minor..Really fun idea ..Thanks for doing it!

We’re glad you enjoy it Glenn. I agree that when looking at them right next to each other, it’s easy to confuse the two. We are able to make the change in the bracket and in the match up question, but not in the answer portion until the first round of voting is done. Otherwise, its going to erase all the votes that have already been made. We will make the change to the answer when the first round is complete. Thanks for the input.

30 Fathoms vs. Hidden Pipe – that is a tough 1st round pairing

Absolutely…one that could go either way and at this moment is dead even in the voting. I wanted to have the two neighbors go head to head early and battle it out.

Good stuff! This was an awesome idea and great matchups!

The only thing missing are breweries offering tasting flights corresponding to the match ups so we can sit down and give each beer our full consideration before voting. ;)

I must admit, I haven’t tried all of these! My favorites in each category are Hoppy – Rocket Science; Easy Drinking – Hell Yes Ma’am; Dark – Working Man’s Lunch; Special – Harvest Time.

If Lonerider’s Red Spur was on the list, might have been a runaway!

If you have yet to try a lot of them, it sounds like you’ve got lots of Raleigh beers to get out there and drink

Carl needs to get around more and stop giving his homemade beers 5 stars.

Love this idea. I gotta chuckle at Devil’s Tramping Ground in easy drinking. Is there someone out there kicking back a couple 9.2% beers with lunch? Also I think you have it spelled wrong (there’s no L) :P

Haha…yeah, Devils Tramping Ground was one of those tough ones that didn’t really fit perfectly in any of the regions. If it was “easy drinking” you’d get into trouble with that ABV pretty quickly. It, along with several others, needed to be included though despite their difficulty to place. We apologize for the mis-spelling. We’ll make the change at the next round update.

WML over Pistols at Dawn? That’s crazy talk.

Hands down, Raleigh Brewing’s “Hell Yes Ma’am” is my new favorite beer. Its definitely easy drinking and can really sneak up on you if you don’t know the ABV. I learned my lesson after the first time.

Haha…there are a couple beers in the bracket that will sneak up on you if you’re not careful. Hell Yes Ma’am is definitely one of them. Learned your lesson? Where’s the fun in that?

CBC does some tasty brews don’t they? Have you made it over to Fortnight yet and tried out their stuff?

Please tell me I didn’t hit submit twice just now when I voted!

No worries, Elizabeth. When we see the same submission come through twice from the same person within a minute or two we assumed there was just an error and we only void one set of the votes (not all)

I just voted a second time and didn’t mean to!

You’re good, Tracy. When we see the same submission come through twice from the same person within a minute or two we assumed there was just an error and we only void one set of the votes (not all). Thanks for keeping it honest!

Is there any way to see the vote tally?

Unfortunately the program we’re using isn’t set up to show our voters the results, but we’ll keep that in mind for next year. We do try to tweet about the close match-ups, so make sure to follow us on twitter if you aren’t already!
